Classroom Rules and Requirements

Classroom Rules

Classroom rules play a crucial role in fostering a positive environment for students, socially, emotionally, and academically. Students learn best in an environment where they feel safe and heard. I encourage all of my students to share any issues or challenges they may be facing. Students are expected to:

    * Be Respectful

* Do your best

* Listen to directions the first time

  * Keep your hands to yourself

    * Raise your hand and take turns talking

When a student breaks a classroom rule, I’ll have a private discussion with them to remind them of our rules and explain their importance. If the behavior continues, a parent conference will be called. Any student who harms another student will be sent to the principal, and the parents will be contacted, as such behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

Nightly Homework:

   Homework provides an opportunity for students to practice and reinforce what they’ve learned in class as well as teaching them responsibility and time management. Each night (Monday-Thursday), students must read for their reading log, complete a math sheet, and work on their Superkids packet. Math will be due the following day unless stated otherwise, Superkids packets will be due weekly, and Reading Logs will be due monthly. Please keep track of due dates and practice good time management in getting the work done. IXL assignments will be added later in the school year to reinforce skills taught in the classroom or to review for upcoming tests. Please check homework folders daily. Remove corrected work and any notes. If a test comes home that is not correct, it is possible it was brought home by mistake, please send it back to school the following day.

Homework Pad

Students copy their homework into a homework pad from our classroom homework chart. Please read this each school night as students will note upcoming tests, missing school items, and last minute announcements in their homework pad.

Late Assignments:

Each time a student fails to return an assignment on time, it will be reflected on their report card, and a note will be sent home.

Test Folder:

When the test folder is sent home,  please sign and date the sheet inside to show that you have seen the tests. Please review the test with your child and keep the tests at home. Send the signed test folder back to school with your child the following day.

Reading Log:

Students should read every school night and fill in the Reading Log. The Reading Log is monthly and counts for a larger part of your child’s homework and reading grade. Please keep the log up to date and turn it in on time.

AR Requirements:

Accelerated Reader (AR) is a reading program that challenges students. Students may choose a book in school or at home to take a comprehension test on. Students should ask about difficult words before taking the test. Students will be required to take at least one AR test each month at school. This book should be grade appropriate and read on their own.

IXL Requirements:

IXL Sign in Page

IXL is a program that assesses students' learning of various skills in reading, language arts, math, science, social studies, and Spanish. Through the year, students will be assigned skills to be completed as part of their weekly/monthly homework. Students are also welcome to practice unassigned skills.
