The Fourth Graders in both classes engaged in a multi-step, cross-curricular project that spanned Science and Language Arts, included several different types of writing, and culminated in a STEM project. First students used their imaginations to create and illustrate a new animal. Then, they used their science knowledge to classify and describe the animal in terms of features and adaptations. Then, using that information combined with their sensory language skills, they each wrote an entry page for our Encyclopedia of Imaginary Creatures on Google Docs. Finally, students were given an opportunity to utilize the STEM Design Process to build a machine that would capture their animal in its natural habitat.
